Peptide Reconstitution Basics: Concentration, Draw Volume, and Units

Reconstituting a lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide means adding a liquid — usually bacteriostatic water — to turn it into a solution you can measure and draw into a syringe. Three numbers drive every calculation:
- Concentration — how much peptide is in each ml of the reconstituted solution. It's simply the total peptide amount divided by the volume of water added.
- Draw volume — how much of that solution you need to draw up for a single dose. It's your desired dose divided by the concentration.
- Syringe units — the same draw volume, expressed in the markings on an insulin syringe (U-100, U-40, or U-30), so you can read it directly off the barrel.

Why the units matter
Insulin syringes are marked in "units," not milliliters — and the units-per-ml scale depends on which syringe you're holding. A U-100 syringe packs 100 units into every ml; a U-40 syringe only 40. Drawing the same volume on the wrong scale means drawing the wrong dose, even if your math was otherwise correct. Always match your calculation to the syringe in your hand.
